Hyper Galactic Mega Quest - Tutorial
This is a tutorial on how to play Hyper Galactic Mega Quest. If you want to figure out how to play HGMQ this is the place. This is designed for new members and gives some basic suggestions on what to do.
Register
When you first start the game you will need to register an account. This account stays with you throughout the rounds and allows you to login from any computer.
Create A Sector
After logging in and verifying your account you will need to decide on a sector name and type. Each of the different sector types have a bonus and a weakness. Below is a list of the different types. If you are unsure which type to pick you should start off with Forest.
| Type | Image | Extraction | Exploration | Production | Attack Speed |
| Forest | ![]() |
0% | 0% | 0% | 0% |
| Asteroid | ![]() |
10% | -10% | 0% | 0% |

0% | 10% | -10% | 0% |
| Desert | ![]() |
-10% | 0% | 0% | 10% |

5% | 5% | -5% | -5% |

Start Exploring Land
The very first thing you should do is start exploring land. Go to the explore page and click on 'Max'. And then click submit. This will start exploring the maximum land you can at the time which isn't very much.
Build Units
Next you will want to go to the unit production page. You will want to start building enough units to keep on producing the maximum amount in each category at the beginning of the game.
Sell Resources
If you ever start running out of money you should go here. As your resources get produced you can sell them at the current market value for credits. I recommend selling at a minumum of 30 credits per resource, maybe more.
Research
The next thing you will want to do is figure out your research. The different research bonuses are an addition on to bonuses that your sector type started out with. If your new to the game I recommend putting alot of research into extraction and production. If you plan on logging in and attacking alot you might put alot of research into attack speed.
Newbie Status
For the first 24 hours your sector is in what is called newbie status. This means you can't attack anyone, and noone can attack you. While you are in this status you should keep logging in and exploring and building units.
After Newbie Status
As soon as you get out of newbie status you are going to be excited about attacking. Thats fine, but also keep in mind that when you attack someone you can sometimes open yourself up. You should attempt to have a good amount of defense compared to your land to discourage people from attacking you. Once you think your good start scouting for good targets.
Scouting
Scouting allows you to find out how much land or ships another sector has. First you should find a sector in the "View Sectors" page that looks like it is about the same strength as you or smaller. Click on the second icon for scouting or type in their sector name in the scouting page. Usually you should send all your scouts as long as you think you can beat them. The more scouts you send compared to the defending planets defense will determine the accuracy of your report and how many scouts you lose. If you want a perfect scout report you will have to send 1 scout for every 100 defense points the enemy has. Otherwise you will get a scout report with a percent error. Be careful not to scout a sector way bigger than you and get your scouts wiped out.
Attacking
Once you have found a good target that you think you can beat its time to attack. Type in the name of the sector or click the third link from the "View Sectors" page. If you want to win you need to send atleast as much equivalent units as they have defending units. If you want to get the maximum land per attack you must have twice the attack points in your attack fleet compared to the total defence points of the defending planet and the defending planet must not have any protection.
Good Job
Those are the basics of the game. Just keep going and you will get the hang of it. Also join the forum and talk to the fellow gamers. Join an alliance if you have friends that you don't want to attack. Thanks for playing HGMQ!
